The Flat files chooser is a new chooser under development that will load McIDAS AXFORM output, many ENVI formats and plain images (.png, .jpg, .gif), as well as any two-dimensional file.

Header Files

Load a McIDAS AXFORM file by loading in the header (.HDR) file. The chooser will add in any properties it finds, including the dimensions and format of the file. It will also look for the associated navigation files (.LAT/.LON for binary, .ALT/.ALN for ASCII) and add them to the navigation property.

The Flat files chooser currently supports a subset of ENVI files. Load these files by also loading in the header file (.hdr). To specify navigation, enter in a set of Bounds where the top boxes represent the upper left latitude and longitude values, and the bottom boxes represent the lower right latitude and longitude values.

This chooser also supports the Image XML file format (.ximg). Load the xml file and enter in the appropriate navigation information.

Generic Flat Files

You can load any two-dimensional file including plain images (.png, .jpg, .gif) into the flat file chooser. Load the file and specify the appropriate information into the Dimensions, Navigation, and Format properties.

Property information:

The Dimensions properties allow you to change the number of lines and elements, the band count, specify units, or control the sampling.

The Navigation properties allow you to specify navigation files to use, or enter in a set of latitude and longitude bounds where the top boxes represent the upper left latitude and longitude values, and the bottom boxes represent the lower right latitude and longitude values. There are also options to change the scale, or make East longitude values positive.

The Format properties allow you to specify the file format - Binary, ASCII, or Image, as well as specify what value indicates a missing value.

Thank you! This is a very good development, from the viewpoint of
the CIMSS retrievals team.
