Hi,

I would like to degrade a GOES-12 image to VAS resolution in the 3.9 um band. It looks like I can change the pixel sampling in the layer controls, does this work only for full pixel steps (0,1,2,3,4,5)? This would mean that my option would be either 8 or 16 km resolution if the original image is 4 km? If I can degrade the data to the desirable resolution, is there a way to save the degraded data?

Hi Joleen-

Sorry for the delay in answering your question. I talked with our more expert users and found out that if you'd like a new degraded AREA file, it can't be written at this time (I'll make an inquiry for evaluation for this).

However, there is a "Export displayed data to netCDF" from the File->Save menu of the Layer Controls. Jess did a couple of tests, and if you change the pixel sampling, it looks like it does save the difference in sampling. This may not be ideal though, as this only gives netCDF output.

Let us know if you have any further questions.

Thanks, Jay

Hi Joleen... I just received some additional comments from TomW as well:

In the layer controls, she can indeed only sample by every N-th pixel
(N is an integer), but since this is a Display Control, it does not
deal with the original data source; therefore, Jessica is correct that
the only way to "save" the degraded displayed image is by the NetCDF
"export displayed data".

Just as with an ADDE data request, all "mag" values are integers. If
she wants to resample image A into the coordinate system of image B,
she would have to use a formula to do that (under 'grids', use the
"resampleGrid" formula).

Again, though, this cannot be saved as an AREA file, only a NetCDF file...

Thanks, Jay
